Empathy and Bucket-Filling
In September we are discussing Empathy. In K-1 we're talking about being a Bucket Filler and next we'll watch Murray from Sesame Street learn what empathy is when someone understands how he feels when he loses his teddy bear (always a favorite!). And we'll play a game about standing in someone else's shoes. In 2nd, we read the book, Empathy is Your Super Power. In the book, the author says "Sometimes you might want to tell other people how you feel. When you have an Empathy super power, other people might want to tell you how they feel, too, because they know you will be kind." In 3-5 we are working on some perspective taking. With games and books like Spaghetti in a Hot Dog Bun, we'll practice what it feels like to put yourself in someone else's shoes.
