Empathy Tool
This month we've been discussing Empathy. In K-1 we talked about being a Bucket Filler and next we'll watch Murray from Sesame Street learn what empathy is when someone understands how he feels when he loses his teddy bear (always a favorite!). In 2-3, we read the book, Empathy is Your Super Power. In the book, the author says "Sometimes you might want to tell other people how you feel. When you have an Empathy super power, other people might want to tell you how they feel, too, because they know you will be kind." We discussed how being an empathetic friend is like using a level because you take care of your own feelings, but you can balance that by showing others you can understand how they feel too. Students added the level to the tool boxes with their own empathy stories. In 4-5 students are coming up with their own tools that represent being able to understand how someone else might feel.
