Self-Control Tool
April's theme is Self-Control. My tool for this month is the tape measure as I measure my actions and reactions carefully. K& 1 are talking about noticing our bodies and how to recognize the clues when we are losing control. We're playing lots of cool down games as we learn some strategies for keeping our cool.
2nd & 3rd graders are looking at self -control with big emotions. We talked about what happens in our brains when we are faced with stress or fear or frustration and why it's hard to be in control. But, we also talked about how our amazing bodies give us signals to warn us so we have time to make choices that help us stay in control. And we're looking at lots of cool-down strategies to keep us in our upstairs brain.
4th & 5th graders are discussing the challenges of self-control and how what you thinks affects how you feel. Then how you feel affects the decisions you make. The decisions you make affect the actions you take, which in the end leads to rewards or consequences.
