Summer Thoughts

As I begin packing up and clearing out for the summer, I am amazed at how quickly this year has gone. I was so happy to be able to return to classroom visits this year and be able to run groups again (although they were all either outside or in larger spaces where we could spread out).

As I reflect back on our Toolbox Project this year, I can't help but smile. The kids were all so creative as they built their toolboxes and reflected on the skills we worked on. Every kid is ending the year with a toolbox (K-1 an actual box, 2-3 a card ring, and 4-5 a digital toolbox) full of tools that represent Cooperation Assertiveness, Responsibility, Respect, Empathy, Self-Control, Attitude of Gratitude, Courage, Careers, and Growth Mindset. Whew! We were busy!

I am going to take some time this summer to relax, re-charge, and re-motivate. I have several retreats planned with lots of lake time. I hope you all will find time to be together as a family and enjoy each other.

Here are some fun and free (or almost free) summer ideas. Sometimes the free things actually have the most worth!

  • Go to the park and pack a yummy lunch

  • Go fishing. Learn about the different types of fish you catch

  • Go biking or hiking (or just take a walk around the neighborhood)

  • Talk about your child’s hopes & dreams for the upcoming year

  • Go to the public library

  • Do community service

  • Cook or bake together (measuring and following a recipe are great learning experiences)

  • Keep a journal

  • Backyard camping

  • Scavenger hunts

  • Create a small business (lemonade stand, bake sale, dog wash
